SJPG Our Story

San Juan Publishing Group, Inc. has been around since 1993 (with Colorado offices in Ouray, Ridgway, Silverton, Durango, Grand Junction, Montrose, Canyon City, and an Arizona office in Cottonwood. We started by publishing the San Juan Silver Stage newspaper (originally out of Ouray) and various themed guides around the Four Corners featuring art, entertainment, food, music, history, culture. After a few years, we upgraded to ‘glossy’ magazines, including San Juan Silver Stage, Silverton Magazine, Ouray Magazine, San Juan Living, Verde Valley (Sedona), All Aboard (Durango), Royal Gorge RR (Canyon City) and a slew of location-specific and topic-specific guides.  When the economy tanked, and print got to be too expensive for most folks, we switched gears again and moved our large and loyal client base to the Internet and digital visual communication.

SJPG no longer prints or digitally produces any of the above-mentioned publications, although we do put out a monthly newsletter, under the SanJuan Silver Stage banner, apprising readers of regional events and activities, including my own classes and history presentations. We also design and publish client-based print publications, generally location- or topic-specific.

On a limited basis, SJPG  still builds, maintains, and hosts websites and manages social media for established clients. We occasionally take on a new client if it is a good fit for the service we can provide. Most new digital clients are referrals. We continue to publish books and reprint existing books and sell both from our website’s Bookstore. We only take on new authors if their subject matter matches our interests (mostly history) and we feel the book has potential market value.
