she is truly a “working artist” – creating, curating, exhibiting, and chronicaling art
[Cedaredge, Colorado, 2014] FOR DAPHNA RUSSELL, art has been a lifelong passion. Her earliest memories are of creative expression. Her education strengthened that love. With degrees from College of William and Mary, Colorado College (B.A. Art History & Sculpture) North Texas State University, and selected Studies at Sarasota Arts Center, Sarasota FL & Meridiana International School of Ceramics, andCertaldo, Italy, Daphna is well prepared not only to create art, but to teach it. (She conducts workshops at her studio in Cedaredge and teaches classes at the Creamery Arts Center in Hotchkiss.
Working in bronze, stoneware, and ceramics, Daphan’s sculpture depicts her own unique view of the world. Anyone who has seen one of her bronze or ceramic nimals can recognize them immediately: they are fluid . . . and fun! She is also renown for her ceramic “angels” part of her liturgical art series.
A prolific artist, her work is presently shown in galleries throughout the west and in Florida. She is also displayed in numerous public installations throughout the United States.
Her work doesn’t stop with hands-on creative expression. She curates too. Her biography includes: Acting Curator of Education – John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art. Curator of Educational Services; Wichita Art Museum; Curator of Community Services, Dayton Art Institute.; Consultant: E.B. Crocker Gallery. She helps prepare exhibitions and installations, has acted as a juror of exhibitions, and as ae writer, has written articles about artists and art exhibitions.
Daphna Russell is truly a “working” artist.
